Dateline: Orange Grove, Texas Richard Matthew Watts, born on June 11, 1990, of Corpus Christi passed away on November 16, 2024, at the age of 34 after battling Sarcoma. He left behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy. Known for his contagious laugh and ability to brighten any room, Matthew had a remarkable way of making the best out of every situation. Matthew brought immense joy to our lives. Matthew’s greatest achievement in life came from being a devoted father. He cherished his children, Edward and Elliott , and found purpose in creating a world filled with adventure and happiness for them. Matthew worked for Tindol and demonstrated an unwavering determination to overcome obstacles throughout his life. Despite the challenges he faced, he embraced life fully and inspired others with his optimism and strength especially during the last few months of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily Watts; his children Edward Escamilla and Elliott Watts; his mother, Jo Ann Kerr, and stepfather, Jason Kerr; his father, Richard Watts, his grandmother, Corinne Watts; and siblings, Dianza N. Martin (Joey), Jason T. Kerr (Dayvon), Hunter B. Kerr, Justin Watts (Katie), Jaci Watts, and Hillary Smith Rosen (Brandon). His nieces and nephews, including Aidan Quinn, Donovan Quinn, Lainey Martin, Aidan Jenkins, and K’Alani Mayfield, along with many other beloved family members in Texas and Mississippi, who will carry his memory in their hearts. Matthew was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Abel V. Gonzalez and Refugia (Cuca) Santana-Gonzalez; Great Grandfather, Maurice Yelverton and grandparents Oscar B. Sanchez, Juanita Sanchez, Richard Watts. As a true Texan, he was a devoted Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros fan but loved all sports. He played baseball, basketball, and football growing up. He loved dancing and country music with a little bit of classic rock. He was the life of the party and will be truly missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to follow. His favorite holiday is Christmas, so we are asking in lieu of flowers please consider donating a Christmas gift at his Celebration of Life.
