Jewel Elizabeth Holmes

Dateline: George West, Tx. Jewel Elizabeth “Becky” Holmes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the age of 99. Born January 28, 1927, near Bangs, Texas, to Guy H. and Mattie Tackett Williams, Becky lived a long life defined by faith, family, and service. She met the love of her life, Walter Holmes, at Daniel Baker College, and they married on February 21, 1947 — beginning a partnership that endured 76 devoted years. Together they raised three children, built businesses, and made their home in Kenedy and later George West, Texas. Becky’s faith was the foundation of her life. She accepted Christ at age 13 and remained an active member of First Baptist Church of George West for decades, serving faithfully in the Dorcas Sunday School class and as church librarian — personally reading every fiction book before placing it on the shelves. She was a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star, honored with her 50-year pin in 2007, and a dedicated member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served in many roles — most cherished among them, Registrar, helping others discover their own family history. She is survived by her sister, Eula Mae Milam of Joaquin, Texas; her children Rodger Eugene Holmes of George West, Teresa Elizabeth Baker of Kyle, and Larry Joe Holmes (Sharon) of Three Rivers; grandchildren Jennifer Crosby (Todd), Nathan Baker (Crystal), Kelly Green (Will), Hannah Holmes, and Susan Ruthama Balew-Holmes; twelve greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her parents, her son-in-law James Earl Baker, her grandson Michael David Holmes, and several beloved siblings-in-law. Her family rejoices that she is exactly where she knew she would be. A visitation will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 6PM to 8PM in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 2PM at the First Baptist Church in George West, Texas with a burial to follow in the George West Cemetery. Services entrusted to Roberson Funeral Home Three Rivers, Texas.
