Dateline: Alice, Texas Estella B. Campbell, age 78, of Alice, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Born on October 2, 1947, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. Estella was known for her warmth, dedication, and unwavering commitment to education, faith, and family. She graduated from Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University-Kingsville) with a degree in education, laying the foundation for her lifelong passion as a teacher. Estella served an 18-month mission in Florida, where she touched countless lives and strengthened her devotion to service. Her teaching career spanned 45 years across various cities and school districts, shaping the minds and hearts of generations of students. Estella was recognized for her excellence in the classroom, earning honors such as Teacher of the Year and Region 2 Elementary Teacher of the Year. She was an active member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) and Delta Kappa Gamma, organizations dedicated to supporting educators. Beyond her professional achievements, Estella was a gifted poet, sharing her published works with many. She found joy in cooking for loved ones and was a cherished member of her community, known for her kindness and generosity. Estella devoted herself to church service, teaching and mentoring others with grace and compassion. Her legacy lives on through her family, friends, and the countless individuals she inspired throughout her life. Estella is preceded in death by her father, Fernando H. Barrera, mother, Vicenta P. Barrera, brothers, Alberto L. Garza, and Humberto S. Garza, and nieces Terry, Zina, and Petula Garza. She is survived by her immediate family: her husband, J. Michael Campbell; her daughters, Madeline M. Campbell (Tiffani Webb) and Marisol Campbell; and her grandson, Fernando M. Alegria. Her extended family includes her sisters: Elva B. Torres (Hector Torres), Emma L. Barrera, Lorraine Lopez, and Juanita (Janie) Brand; her nieces: Mary (Margie) Perez (Roger Perez), Tina Garza, and Loretta Torres (John Jaimes); her nephews: Michael A. Cantu and Hector Andres Torres (Andrea Pena); her great nieces: Linda Lorraine Perez, Lisa Ann-Marie Perez, and Lorelai Gomez; and her great nephew: Andres (Hector) Torres. She is also survived by many priceless extended family members and friends. Estella cherished each of these relationships deeply, always remembering birthdays with heartfelt cards, handmade “detalles,” or offering a listening ear and comforting words during difficult times. Her love extended to all her family and friends—she was known for organizing family gatherings, reaching out to those in need, and sharing her testimony of God’s love and mercy. Through her thoughtful gestures and unwavering support, Estella leaves behind a legacy of compassion, warmth, and a genuine commitment to lifting others up, reminding everyone fortunate enough to know her of the profound impact one person can make. In honoring her wishes, a graveside service will take place at Collins Cemetery on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on her first heavenly birthday, Friday, October 2, 2026.
