Dorothy McCollough

September 21, 1938 - April 12, 2022

Dateline: Orange Grove, Texas Dorothy Lou McCollough passed into eternal life on April 12,2022. She was born September 21, 1938 to Levy Singleton and Delma Lee (Weeks) McCollough. She was a sickly child when born but lived a full life exceeding that of her siblings: Lurline Brown, Clarence (Bud) McCollough and Shirley Hildreth. Dorothy was always looking for that “next thing”. She moved around a lot in her life with a husband in the Army and then when other opportunities came her way. She endeared herself to folks she met on her journey. She loved to sew and would make matching outfits for her and her daughter, dolls and quilts. Her seamstress skills helped her get a job in the Shirt Mill and other textile businesses. She had many different jobs from dishwasher to housekeeper to hospital aide; you name it she’d try it. She is survived by her longtime companion, Ken Retzer of Orange Grove TX; daughter, Dianne Dunbar of Oklahoma City, OK and son, Robert Farris of Birmingham, AL. Life brought great losses her way – her parents, siblings, husbands and three sons, Bobby, David and Alvin. She was a grandmother of 9, Amanda, David Jr, Kristina, Elizabeth, Ashley, Colleen, Danielle, Alison and Micayla; and great-grandmother of 15. A visitation will be held Monday, April 18, 2022 from 10 am to 1 pm at the Brush Country Cowboy Church in George West, Tx. with a funeral service to begin at 1 pm. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 10 am to 11 am at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, Alabama. A Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Lytle, Alabama next to her son Bobby.
