He was born May 18, 1937 to A. L. & Minneola (Martin) McWhorter, Sr. He graduated from Alice High School in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Jean Vanderslice in 1955. They were married 47 years and had 4 children. He served in the Army for one tour and served in the Air Force for 17 years. After retirement from Military Service, he owned several businesses including Odem TV and Odem Loans. He retired from those businesses in 2004. He was a member of West Main Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, participating in church activities and spending time with his family. He married Shirley (Woodall) McWhorter in 2004. They had 11 great years together. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Norma. Survivors: Wife: Shirley McWhorter of Alice, Texas 2 sons: Roy (Debbie) McWhorter of Benson, AZ Jimmie (Michelle) McWhorter of Clarksville, TN. 2 daughters: Carole (Jay) Harvey of Carthage, TX. Judy (Frank) Curry of Corpus Christi, TX. 5 Grandsons: Patrick McWhorter, Sean (Kendra) McWhorter, David (Bailey) Harvey, Jameson McWhorter and Austin McWhorter. 1 Granddaughter: Katie Curry. 2 brothers: Gene (Susie) McWhorter of Odem, TX Donnie (Linda) McWhorter of Pasco, WA Numerous Nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. He also had many step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren who loved him dearly. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday May 20, 2015 from 5PM to 8PM at the Roberson Funeral Home in Alice, TX. Services will be on Thursday May 21, 2015 at 11:00AM at the West Main Baptist Church in Alice, TX. Graveside Military Services will be held at the Odem Cemetery at 2PM in Odem, TX.
