Dateline: Alice, Tx. Michael Lee Cooke, 72, passed away on March 28, 2025 in a Houston hospital surrounded by his family. Michael, also known as Mike, was born August 12, 1952. He was the youngest son of Gladys Mae and William Clarence Cooke. Mike grew up in Freer, Texas. He married the love of his life, Peggy Ann, on May, 22, 1971 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force shortly after. While stationed in Clovis, New Mexico, they started a family and had their first two children, Matthew Lee and Kimberly Jean. Life brought them back to South Texas where they settled down in Alice. Mike went to work at Hoechst Celanese in 1976. God threw them a curveball and they welcomed their third child, Michelle Ann a few years later. His family was everything to him as he coached little league baseball and soccer. Mike was a God loving man. He loved to go hunting and fishing. He was an expert shot with guns and an Archer. He worked on and built guns over the years. He could talk about them for hours. Ask anyone that joined the Gun Club that he ran for several years!!! There is nothing he couldn’t do. He never met a stranger and was a friend to many. He raised his children as God intended and he was often caught performing acts of kindness that his children have instilled in their children. His name changed to Granddaddy in 2005 with the birth of his first grandson, Logan. Cadie came along in 2006. Mike formed the McNasties Gang adding in members Dakota, McKenna, Maddie and Zoey. He had a knack for planting magic apple trees and creating “Maddiecakes.” The McNasties were notorious for riding their bikes all over the neighborhood, hanging out at the Lakehouse, and causing mayhem for Mema’. Granddaddy was the mastermind behind all of their shenanigans. He loved rides with his faithful pup Cookie and the numerous other animals he had over the years. His grandkids were everything to him. He enjoyed many hunting trips with them. He was their biggest cheerleader at football, volleyball, swim, band, softball and cheer events. Even making time for the bonus grandkids, Tyler, Alysa, Sarah and Andrea. He was proud of and loved every one of them. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Cooke, Brother William Cook, sisters, Judy Hinnant and Sue Parchman and nephew, Larry Mitchell Martin. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ann Cooke of Alice Texas. His son Matthew (Shay) Cooke of Victoria, Texas and daughters Kimberly (Daniel) Cardona and Michelle (Anthony) Pacheco. Grandkids Logan Cardona(Victoria Pena), Cadence Pacheco (Isaac Wright), Dakota Cardona, McKenna Cooke, Madison Pacheco, Zoey Cardona, Tyler Hester, Alysa Cardona, Sarah Walters (Andrew Loudermilk) and Andrea Herrera. His sister, Jeanette (Mitchell) Martin of Alice, Texas and brother-in-law Frances Hinnant of Angleton, Texas, Military Brother Hugh “Buck” (Karen) Buchtel of Hoyt, Kansas and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his fur babies Lily, Hank, Willie, and Baby. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Winnie and his staff for the care and kindness throughout the years. Dr. Carbajal at Houston Methodist Hospital for his compassion. Fortune, who was Mike’s nurse from his first stay in October. You cared for Mike and guided him through the gates of Heaven. The love you have for your job and your patients did not go unnoticed. Thank you for touching our lives, if even for a short time. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. With Honorary Pallbearers: Raul Ramirez, Alberto Perez, Jim Holmgreen, Bill Acker, Jim Acker, John Graves (Peanut), Danny Flores and Pete Flores. Viewing will be held at Roberson Funeral home on April 3, 2025 at 5pm for family and 6-8pm for friends and the public. With Funeral Services on April 4, 2025 at 10:30 am at West Main Baptist Church in Alice Texas led by Pastor Wade Rush. Burial will follow at the Alice Cemetery with Military Honors.
