Leola Adams

Leola Adams, age 92, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 10, 2024. She entered the gates of heaven on the birthday of her sweet, late husband, Phil Adams. They shared 66 years of marriage before he passed. Her family always loved hearing the story of how they met. Leola was waiting at Uncle Jutt’s corner store in Alfred, Texas for her brother to pick her up after volleyball practice. Phil had walked into the store and offered to take her home. She declined the ride from that “stranger” that day. But, little did she know, they would fall in love soon after and share a beautiful life together. Leola was born in Kingsville, Texas on November 20, 1931 to Ettie and Dorse Smith. She graduated from Orange Grove High School in 1949. Leola was an active member of the First Baptist Church and was strong in her faith. Leola instilled that faith and love of the Lord into her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the caretaker of her family and was always willing to take in “extra” children whom she loved as her own. She was a caring mother, grandmother and wife. She had a way of teaching you life lessons and showing you so much love even if you were briefly visiting with her. Her children describe her as: creative, loving and nurturing. She was a wonderful cook and always had a home full of mouths to feed. Her grandchildren said they always felt safe and loved with her, even when they were in trouble. They have fond memories of cooking with her in the kitchen, spending time on the ranch with the animals and eating sweets anytime she would let them. Leola is survived by 3 of her children, Tancy (David) Herschap of Orange Grove; Rob (Phyllis) Adams of Alfred and Tammy (Jeff) Hahn of Alfred. Her 5 granddaughters, Jessie Bull of Corpus Christi; Katy (Luzio) Lamb of Alfred; Hailey (Robert) Galvan of Alfred; Whitley (Brady) Rusk of Orange Grove; and Mckenzie Hahn of Corpus Christi. Her 2 grandsons, DL (Stephanie) Herschap of Orange Grove and Rydr Brummett (Alfred). She also had 11 great grandchildren, Layla Contreras; Luzio, Vincent and Coralie Lamb; Jordan, Kera, and Mason Galvan; Harper and Sawyer Rusk; and Kailie and Abby Fischer. Also, survived by several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ettie and Dorse Smith; Husband, Phil Adams; Daughter, Terry Galloway and her siblings Helen Dunlap and Ray Smith. The visitation will be Tuesday, February 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, February 14th beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Roberson’s Funeral Home in Alice, Texas. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 14th at 11:00. Burial immediately after at Adams Cemetery in Alfred, Texas. There will be a meal after the services at Pebbles with Ripples Community Center in Orange Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association. Services entrusted to Roberson Funeral Home Alice.
