Kara Blackwell

Kara Lynn Blackwell, 49, went to be with the Lord December 16, 2020. She was born September 25, 1971 to Claude and Nanette Blackwell in Houston, Texas. Kara was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed dearly! Kara was a 1990 Alice High School graduate. She worked for over 20 years for Alamosa Animal Hospital. Kara was known to her family and friends as the animal whisperer. She loved animals and cared for them with her whole heart. She knew how to raise people up with her loving heart and amazing singing voice. She would share that amazing voice with her family, friends, and all her fur babies. Kara loved music, especially the Oldies. She always thought she was born at the wrong time for the music she loved. She and her father shared love for the same genres of music and would often listen together. Kara was an avid reader. She wasn't much for television, but loved books just as much as she loved animals. She is preceded in death by her brother, Claude V. Blackwell III (Trey), her sister Katina Blackwell, grandparents Claude V. Blackwell Sr., Wanda S. Blackwell, and Joseph N. Phlegar. She is survived by her loving parents, Claude and Nanette Blackwell of Alice, Texas. Her grandmother, Virginia Phlegar of Bastrop, Texas. Her brothers in law and sisters; Russell and Kathy Green of Alice, Karrie and Dan Parada of League City, Texas, and Kelli and Gabriel Salinas of Alice. Her nieces and nephews; Kenneth Green of Corpus Christi, Texas; Megan and Rodney Berryman of Manor, Texas; Bryant and Marina Reynolds of Alice, C.J. Reynolds of San Antonio, Texas; Russell and Jennifer Green of Corpus Christi, Texas; Tyler and Kirstin LaRocca of Baltimore, Maryland; Brandon and Alyssa Reynolds of Alice, Texas; and Miles James Salinas of Alice, Texas. Her great-nieces Odette and Fallon Green of Corpus Christi, Texas and Maya Mernaugh of Flour Bluff, Texas. Her great-nephew Rylee Green of Flour Bluff, Texas, her aunts and uncles; Candy Loy of League City, Texas, Sheila and Grant Randall of Phoenix, Arizona, and David Board of Austin, Texas; her cousin Christina Winters of Huntington, Texas; her best friends; Shannon Frost of San Antonio, Texas and Jana Powell of Alice, Texas; and numerous friends and fur babies. A memorial and celebration of life service will be held Monday, December 21, 2020, 10:30am at Morningside Drive Church of Christ. The family asks in lieu of flowers to please make donations to the The Cattery in Corpus Christi, Texas, the National Kidney Foundation, Morningside Drive Church of Christ or a charity of your choosing.
