Haven Paul Harrod

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Haven Paul Harrod at the age of 88. Haven was a family man whose greatest joy was spending time with those he loved. He was deeply connected to his community, known for his kindness, ability to find a friend in anyone, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Haven’s life journey started in Oakville Tx April 30, 1938. He grew up with a brother, Cecil Harrod and a sister Melba (Harrod) Smith. Throughout Havens’ life he attended and graduated George West Independent School District, was a part of the family business of raising bees for honey, pursued the United States Army, was a husband and father and a member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge #325. When he met Mary Laverne Cannon, this is where his story really kicks off. From this union, 6 beautiful children were brought into the world. Haven loved hunting deer, hogs, even an alligator on an old county road that he wasn’t supposed to catch. He loved to fish any riverbank or lake shore, make biscuits, drink coffee and talk to just about anyone that would listen. I am sure many folks have heard his stories. This made his career choices as a salesman and business owner simple; he took what he knew and provided for his family. He worked for US Steel and even owned a service station for a while. Haven and his family would call many places home over the years, but he eventually led them back to where it all began in the early 1990s, Live Oak County. He knew this was where they were meant to be. Once his life of a salesman was winding down, Haven found himself part of GWISD once more, but this time he was responsible for transporting young minds to and from school safely and he was proud to do so until the day he retired. In retirement, Haven became part of the Brush Country Cowboy Church family. Brother Pat Traxler welcomed Haven with open arms. He would look forward to every Sunday to see his church family and hear how everyone did that week. Haven lived a wonderful life, full of love, hard work, and honesty. We, his family, his church family and the community will miss him dearly. This week we get to honor Haven Harrod. Haven was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rena Harrod, his wife, Mary Cannon Harrod, his brother, Cecil Harrod, and his sister Melba Smith. He is survived by his children, Haven Brad Harrod and wife Linda Harrod, Margaret Harrod Burell, Travis Dwayne Harrod, Stacy Lynn Harrod and wife Tiffany Harrod, Tracy Glenn Harrod and wife Roxann Harrod and Lisa Nicole Farago, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Scott Smith, Ronald Smith, James Cannon, David Earl Cannon, Matthew Harrod, and Chris Ganter. Honorary Pallbearers are Edward Bunch and Steve Ratliff. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with funeral services directly following at 11:00 a.m.at the Brush Country Cowboy Church. Interment will follow at Oakville Cemetery. While our hearts mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Haven has been reunited with loved ones who went before him and is at peace in the presence of the Lord. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
